The Rt. Rev. Dr. Elias Chakupewa Mazi is the third Bishop of the Diocese of Tabora. He was born in the Kigoma Region near Lake Tanganyika. In 2006, he graduated with a Bachelor of Divinity from St. Paul’s University in Limuru, Kenya. From 2007 to 2009, he completed his Master’s degree studies at Trinity School for Ministry in Pennsylvania, USA, and Uganda Christian University.
In June 2018, Dayspring Christian University in Mississippi, USA, awarded him an honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree. Bishop Chakupewa is married to Lucy and is a father of six children. He was elected Bishop in April 2011, having previously served as the Diocesan Secretary.

The Diocese of Tabora was inaugurated on 2nd July 1989. The current Diocesan Bishop is the Rt. Rev. Dr. Elias Chakupewa Mazi who was consecrated and enthroned since 29th May, 2011.
