St. Philips Health Centre

About St. Philips Health Centre

Owned by the Anglican Church of Tanzania, Diocese of Tabora, St. Philips Health Centre began its primary health service in 2002. The facility was later registered as a Dispensary and, in May 2005, was officially upgraded to a Health Centre. The registered name of the facility is ST. PHILIPS HEALTH CENTRE, operating under The Private Hospitals (Regulation) Act No. 6 of 1977, as amended by Act No. 26 of 1991. It is located in Luanzali village, Ng’ambo Ward, within the Tabora Municipal Council, approximately 3.5 km from the Tabora regional referral hospital.

Management and Organizational Structure

St. Philips Health Centre is managed through a clear organizational structure. The hierarchy is led by the Diocesan Health Board, followed by the Health Management Team, and then the Doctor in Charge. The Administration department oversees other interdependent departments, including the Laboratory, Pharmacy, In-Patient Department (IPD), Outpatient Department (OPD), and the Care and Treatment Clinic (CTC).

Staffing and Administrative Challenges

Currently, The St. Philips Health Centre is managed by 44 staff members, comprising both medical and support teams. The medical staff includes five clinical officers, five registered nurses, four laboratory technologists, and four pharmaceutical technologists. However, more medical staff—including doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians, ultrasound experts, and pharmacy technologists—are needed to meet the needs of the growing number of clients.

The administration is also actively addressing several significant challenges, such as the need for a standard operating theatre, a proper maternity ward, improved infection prevention and control facilities, and an upgraded administration block to serve the increasing number of clients in the area.

Invitation for Support

The administration of St. Philips Health Centre invites partners and friends to offer prayers and support for the work pioneered by the Anglican Church in Tabora.
